Biography

Wendy Prellwitz’ abstracted landscapes are focused on water imagery and coastal light –inspired by her connection to bays, creeks and rivers. Her monotypes, oil paintings and watercolors are informed by growing up with watery views and painting outdoors on the North Fork of Long Island, as well as Mohegan Island and Ireland.

In 2015, Wendy showed her prints with 2 other artists at The Carbondale Art Center gallery in Colorado – and this year she will be part of a group show at the Bromfield Gallery in Boston, as well as a solo show upcoming in Cambridge in the fall.

She had 3 solo shows of paintings & prints on Long Island in 2014 – at the South Street Gallery in Greenport, NY and Cutchogue New Suffolk Free Library and North Fork Table, also on Long Island. That spring she was painting in Ireland on a continuing fellowship from the Ballinglen Arts Foundation and was awarded first place in Direct/ Indirect, a juried print show at the Chandler Gallery in Cambridge, and had a solo print show there in the fall.

In the last few years, she was included in the East End Art’s Gallery “H2O’ show in Riverhead,NY, a print show at Soprafina Gallery in Boston and at the Dragonfly Gallery on Martha’s Vineyard. In 2012 she exhibited prints at The Boston Public Library, in “Re-Think Ink, 25 years at Mix-it Print Shop”.

Museum shows include “Eire / Land” at Boston College’s McMullen Museum, and “Morning, Noon, and Night” at The Long Island Museum in Stony Brook, New York.

Wendy was originally awarded a Fellowship from the Ballinglen Arts Foundation in 1998, and continuing fellowships from 2000 to 2007, to live and paint along Ireland’s west coast in County Mayo. She also received a Grant-in-Aid from the St Botolph St Foundation in 2002, which funded a painting trip to Rome.

She attended the Rhode Island School of Design and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She teaches at the Maud Morgan Visual Arts Center in Cambridge, MA, co-founded her architectural firm Prellwitz/Chilinski Associates in 1980, and lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts and Peconic, New York.
