WILLIAM PORTER / Paintings, About Greenport
April 1 – April 29 2012
William Porter is a third generation artist originally from Long Island. He expresses his art mainly through drawing and plein-air painting in oil. His major influences are from the likes of Edward Hopper, Camille Pissarro and Claude Monet.
Porter studied drawing and painting at the Art Students League as well as privately. He has painted a wide range of subject matter from the landscape of the rural west to the cityscape of Brooklyn, NY as well as the still life. Porter is known for his use of color in describing the feeling of light and his fluent drawing ability of complex compositions in their natural perspective. He has had very successful showings of his work at the Parkside Gallery in La Veta, Colorado.
More recently Porter has moved back to Long Island to focus his work in the painting of the North Fork. His inspiration draws from the obvious natural beauty and the remnants of the past found on the remaining farms, boat yards, as well as the beauty of the seascape. “My passion is to capture the feeling and essence of the fleeting light through line, tone and color.”
