Julian will be running two two day workshops on alla prima still life painting in oil. He will demonstrate a small still life painting from start to finish – from selecting the subject and setting up the lighting to completion. Through question and answer sessions, demonstrations and critiques Julian will cover:

Brushwork and gesture,

Using a limited palette for speed and efficiency

Keeping the looseness and spontaneity in your painting, while maintaining the illusion of solid objects, weight and gravity.

How to realize the daily practice of small scale paintings by setting achievable goals within a short session.
