TIM HORN / Bright Sun, Clean Color
June 1 – June 3 2012
Time: 9:00AM – 4:30PM
This 3-day plein air workshop is geared toward beginner/intermediate and intermediate painters, working in oil. The primary focus will be on how to convey the sense of strong sunlight in your paintings by clarifying and pushing the values. If you’re out painting on a sunny day, that sense of light should be clearly communicated in your paintings, whether you’re painting a boat, a figure on the beach or a building in the landscape. We will also work on achieving clean color in our paintings, and utilize value patterns to aid in developing successful compositions. There will be discussions on materials, scene selection and brushwork. I will do a demonstration painting each day, and work with students individually on their paintings throughout the day as we paint outdoors.
Workshop limit – 14
Workshop fee – $385
Materials list provided upon registration.
About Tim((Born and raised in the small town of Yellow Springs, Ohio, Tim graduated from the Cooper Union School of Art in New York City in 1984, where graphic design was his primary focus. After finishing school, he worked at several design firms in NYC before moving to San Francisco in 1992, where he continued to work as a designer.((Tim took his first painting class in 1998, followed by another in the fall of ’99. and within a year was completely hooked. He began painting more and more, and doing less and less graphic deisgn. In the fall of 2006 he closed his design business and now paints full time. He participates in about 4 annual group shows, is represented by 3 galleries and does a handful of commissions every year.
About half his work is done on location, or “plein air”, and the rest is done in his studio from studies or photographs.
Tim lives in Fairfax with his wife and 2 young sons, teaches several plein air workshops every year, and paints all over the Bay Area and beyond.
